Description:

“Almost Heaven, West Virginia, Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River” sound familiar? Are you ready for an exciting and adventurous canoe trip down the Shenandoah River? Join us for a two-day outing where you will learn paddling skills, river safety, camping techniques, and more. You will also enjoy the scenic beauty and wildlife of one of America’s most historic rivers.

We will depart on Friday evening at 6 PM from Rosa Lee Carter and drive to Front Royal and camp at Low Water Bridge Campground. We will rent canoes from Front Royal River Company where they will provide us with all the necessary equipment, transportation up river, and provide instruction. We will have 2 adventures to choose from!

Scout Crew #1: “Burners Ford to Bentonville”

The younger scouts will launch canoes 7 miles upstream and paddle 3-4 hours down the Shenandoah River starting at Burners Ford to Bentonville. Along the way, we will encounter some small rapids, eddies, and bends that will test our skills and teamwork. This adventure will cost $63.47 for scouts and $47.21 for adults.

Scout Crew #2: “Seekford Landing to Front Royal Outdoors”

The older scouts will launch canoes 23 miles upstream and paddle from Seekford landing to Low River Bridge Campground. On Sunday morning, the crew will wake up and complete the rest of the journey to Front Royal Outdoors. This adventure will cost $84.40 for scouts and $68.14 for adults.

Both crews will set up our tents, cook our dinner, and have a campfire program with stories and songs. We will also practice some scout skills such as knot tying, fire building, first aid, and navigation. We will sleep in tents under the stars and listen to the sounds of nature.

Please pay by April 7th to attend the event and give the scouts time to prepare!
