Webmaster
Date: September 29th – October 1st
Location: Camp William B. Snyder
Description: CALLING ALL SCOUTS! We need your help during our Webeloree. This is our time to talk to Cub Scouts about all the fun things we do here at Troop 761. The more Cub Scouts we persuade, the more that will join our troop. This is also the time of the year when we build our famous monkey bridge. This is also a very fun campout because we will have many fun activities and games set up by the camp and other troops.
Date: November 17th – 19th
Location: TBD
Description: Join us on an adventure-packed horse ride. We will be riding the horses all around the campsite. We will learn about proper horse etiquette and how to take care of them. You will get to meet, pet, and ride the horses.
Date: October 20th – 22nd
Location: TBD
Description: Our Scouts will head out on a fun but challenging adventure. They’ll be hiking while carrying all their camping essentials. That is where lightly packing, meal planning, and navigation skills come into play. Scouts will learn about packing lightly and how to properly pack in order to have an easier time walking. During backpacking campouts, meals are a bit different, so the scout will learn about backpacking meals and how to cook them properly. Lastly, navigation is an essential part of hiking/backpacking, so scouts will depend on their map/compass to find their way around. This is a very good campout for scouts because they’ll get the experience of how to pack and be prepared for hiking campouts like these.
Date: September 8th – 10th
Location:Â Camp Highroad, Frontier Campsite
Description: Scouts of all ages will be working together as a team across various team-building activities, which will have fun games that will teach the scout how to lead a team and be a team member. Additionally, scouts will have opportunities to work on any miscellaneous camping requirements they need to get done.
As Frank Sinatra put it, “If I can make it there, I’ll make it anywhere. It’s up to you, New York, New York”.
On August 4th to August 6th, we will have a special New York City backpacking trip using all public transportation. We will depart early on August 4th and make our way up to Camp Pouch on Staten Island. On August 5th, we will tour the city with a ferry ride in front of the Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Center, Times Square, and more. It’s an opportunity for scouts to experience traveling and planning a city trip.Â
Transportation Logistics
We will depart from the Loudoun Station metro station and travel to Union Station. At Union Station we will take a 10:20 AM bus to 34th Street b/t 11th Ave and 12th Ave. We will travel by subway to the Staten Island Ferry. We will take the Ferry to Staten Island and take a bus to a .8 mile walk to the campsite at Camp Pouch.
On Saturday morning, we will wake up, and grab breakfast at a local bakery and get on a bus back to the Staten Island Ferry. We will travel past the Statue of Liberty again and have an exciting day in New York City. After a long day in the city, we will travel back to Camp Pouch and relax.
On Sunday morning, we will break down camp and make our way back to a Penn Station 11 AM Mega Bus back to Union Station with an expected arrival at 3:35 PM. We will travel back to Loudoun Station via Metro for pick-up.
Costs and Signing up
The cost for the bus trip to and from is $61.38 plus stripe fee. To sign-up, we are booking bus tickets as a group. Costs that are not included in signing up include souvenirs, food, metro, and subway tickets. We expect that scouts will bring their own lunch on Friday and estimate that each meal will be $15 for a total of $90. Metro ticket each way for $5, and we will have a better guess on the subway tickets once we have a definitive itinerary.
Who can sign-up?
To sign-up for this trip, we will be carrying all of our gear in a backpack. If you have never gone backpacking before, I would wait until the October backpacking trip. This trip will take a fair amount of physical and mental stamina and only those scouts that can handle a trip of this manner should sign-up. Sign-up for this trip is also very limited. We will have a maximum of 26 members including up to 6 adults so that we have at least a 1:5 ratio of scouts to adults to ensure we stick together.
We hope you can join us on this journey and have your scout find a new sense of wonder by traveling.
